Game of Thrones serisini okumakta olduğum için, hem de kendime zulüm ederek orjinalinden okuduğum için, karakterlerle oldukça iç içe geçmiş vaziyetteyim. Tabi ki, kadın karakterler çok daha fazla ilgimi çekiyor zira tüm bu savaş ve maskülenite ortamında kadınların güçlü olduğunu görmenin hazzını yaşıyorum-ki serinin feminist olarak nitelendirilmesinde bu olay büyük rol oynamıştır. Tüm kadın(bayan değil, her zaman kadın) karakterler arasında gözdem tabi ki Targaryen ailesinin kızı Daenerys; sonrasında Khal Drogo'yla evlenip Khaleesi olan güzide lider. Kendisi oldukça açık tenli ve sarışın, gözleri renkli ve tüm hatlarıyla oldukça güzel. Dizi çekimlerinde oldukça hafif, no make up-make up uygulanan oyuncunun makyajını yapmak istersek diye; here we go:

Allright, I'll try this review not to be so long and boring.
When I first heard about "Game of Thrones" as an existing book, I was literally like "Meh, I don't read fantasy, let's skip this." Days passed by and I went to a bookstore just to kill the time and I saw the book, translated into Turkish, which happens to be my native language. I was really impressed by the cover, but I still did not want to start to read fantasy book at the age of 21. I skipped it again.
Then, I read a short comment about the book on web, written by a Turkish lady, saying that she read the books from the original language, and she swears that the Turkish translation is worse than anything. She highly recommended reading it in English. It was the time that I said "Okay, I really need to order this book."
To inform; the collage I attend to, the people I talk to, the environment that I'm into, they are all based on the language of English but still, reading a book in Turkish is a huge comfort for me. I knew that it wasn't going to be so easy because I was aware of the time period that this book was written, so the language was not going to be so soft and gentle for foreign readers. Still, I wanted to read the books from the original language so bad, that I searched for the set of whole series from Amazon. I found and immediately ordered. It arrived after 26 days. I couldn't believe myself that I was so excited about the situation. I started reading, but also I was thinking that the book was so thick and I didn't know that if I could be able to read it in a short time; therewithal I couldn't but that's not the point at all.
Okay this was a bit too much for a background. About the book; as I mentioned before, I am totaly NOT a fantasy book reader. I usually read classics and research books. But Game of Thrones changed it all. I read it so slowly, because I had tons of readings and works and exams and stuff to do with my school but I took it with me every single place that I go. I became a total addict.
Positive sides first: The building and the structure of the characters are perfect. I really mean it. For sure, I am not comparing with godlike Dostoyevsky type of structure but it still satisfied me in the name of creating a proper environment to get me into it. What more is, even if there are weak characters, they are generally so unique to themselves and no similarities between. The reader is clearly able to see the lines between the characters and be able to expect certain acts from certain characters. Of course, there are tons of surprises which makes the book readable and continious, but the reader knows that all the things that has been happened was more or less based on identities of the characters. The fact of honour and dignity was the actual "hit" part for me because I'm kind of, hard to admit, into aristocratic kind of characters in the books. In my own personal life also, but that's another story.
I won't go into detail about all the characters one by one but if I had to be a fanatic of one; it would definitely be Daenerys. I can hear you saying "What? Really?" but this part needs a personal explanation. I know that the Game of Thrones books are considered as "feminist" nowadays a lot, and myself as feminist -this is the first time that I label myself as feminist by the way, though everyone knows it-,was surely going to be a fan of a female character. Let's consider it; Cat? No, she was so weak at the first part of the book and after Ned's absence she became a strong female model. Arya? Maybe. Tomboys are always my type, but she is still a child and I can't predict what's she going to choose to be. Sansa? May I kill you in a ladylike way? Cersei? I'm not into incest, sorry. So Daenerys, you happen to be a queen of my gentle heart. Even when she was under the influence of his selfish brother, Viserys who was killed by Drogo with a melted gold as he always wanted basically, she was still so strong that she could handle all those barbarian weddings and forced sexual acts and fights and so on. She was a real dragon, obviously, which impresses me. Girl, you are the symbol of pride.
Apart from that, I have favourite male characters for sure. Tyrion Lannister has the first place with no doubt. You know what? Intelligence always casts a spell on me. He is a real bookworm and he got his brain instead of masculine kind of powers, which I'd admire if I were a man. Also, his sense of humour is amazing. Sex-addiction is another part of his personality for sure but who isn't in the book?
Other than Tyrion, Snow is the most perfect bastard of the entire world. He is so emotional inside which is not good at all for a member of Nightwatch but for me it's perfectly okay. Okay I admit, after I see him in TV Show of the book... It blew with bellows. But still, he had a place in my heart.
To jump on to negative sides: There are "too much" secondary characters that always confuses me. Always. And Martin was not so helpfull about reminding who was who. Also, as I said before, the language was a bit tough. See, I don't have tons of negative things to say.
To conclude all the rambling; the book was amazing. The only reason that I gave 4 stars was the extreme quantity of secondary characters and its complexity. I will read the following book, A Clash of Kings, immediately. I'm so curious about nearly everything. I don't know if it was the best way to start reading fantasy books but yeah...I'm so glad that I have 'em all.
